Decolonizing Support Work in Community

Last week, I had the honor of speaking at the John Howard Society of Manitoba Revive Community Services Symposium. It was an incredible experience to share insights on creating relative supports, fostering a Relative-Centred approach, embracing Grey-Thinking, and using Relationalism to decolonize our community work. So grateful for the opportunity and the amazing conversations that followed!

A special thank you to the John Howard Society of MB for asking me to speak at this event, and a shout out to Theresa Crow Spread His Wings for the company and their knowledge they shared! #CommunitySupport #Relationalism #Decolonization #GreyThinking #RelativeCentred

One highlighted topic we went over and exchanged knowledge on was "relationalism". What is this? How do we apply this to community work with relatives?

What I use it to Describe:

“how beings are connected, and how beings interact in a setting that is reflective of an environment”

Examples of this in Helping:

How a Relative Interacts with Community in General (Connections, Leisure, Belonging)

What Role our Relative Plays in Community

Who Thrives with Our Relative

What Our Relative Needs to Succeed When it Comes to Conditions of Life

Identifying Factors Such as These Will Make our Helping and Supporting More Encompassing and Focused with “Interventions”

If you would like to explore a partnership that looks more in depth on how your organization can decolonize its work with community, absolutely reach out!
